Word on the street was that there is a new boxing studio in town so the Jungle Babes went to check it out…
Join the Tribe.
Tribe Boxing is a little like Flyfight where you punch a bag following the rhythm of the music, using a combination of four different punch styles – jab, cross, hook, and uppercut. In between the punches, there is a bit of strength training with anything from squats to planking. The class comprises of 3 minute workout intervals interspersed with 45-second breaks. It is essentially a boxing HIIT class where you bring up the cardiovascular intensity with the punches and slow it down with strength training.
Tribe provides boxing gloves, but you can also bring your own. Based on the feedback from one of our Babes, the gloves that Tribe offers are better. For inserts, Tribe recommends wrapping your hands instead of wearing glove inserts. This is because wraps provide better support for your hands and wrist, protecting against injuries when you punch. It is supposed to be less painful when you hit. I can’t exactly say for certain whether that is the case because my fingers were still sore from smashing them into a wall after tripping over my son’s school bag.
Why Use Hand Wraps
The function of a hand wrap is to secure all your loose joints and moveable bones. This allows the shock of the punch to be distributed more evenly across your entire hand and reduce the risk of injuries. It also reduces the risk of fracture.
How to Wrap Your Hands
Tribe boxing bags are long. This is because they intend to introduce kick boxing at a later stage. For our vertically-challenged Babes, the long bags are definitely more ergonomically friendly. You can see how long they are in the photo below – they extend nearly all the way to the ground.
At Tribe, they have a boxing ring. They say that it will be used for training. Naturally, we couldn’t help ourselves and had to get up to our old shenanigans.
And who could resist a shot as a “Tribe Angel”?
Because we glow…
At the moment, Tribe only runs boxing classes and personal training sessions. Coming soon, they will also be offering a cafe. You can visit their website for package prices.
